SIDE HAWG
Seen it all? The CRKT Side Hawg™ is a skeletonized single-side
outdoor knife with a clip-on sheath plate and carabiner lanyard.
Mike Franklin is an award winning custom knifemaker and Knifemakers’ Guild
member whose company, HAWG! Knives is located in Aberdeen, Ohio. His slogan,
“Knives With An Attitude” certainly demonstrates his personal approach.
His first CRKT design was the popular and most unusual Serengeti Hunter
three-knife system. His CRKT Side Hawg™ is equally surprising.
The Side Hawg is both minimal and functional. It is one piece
of 420J2 stainless steel, skeletonized with CNC chamfered edges and a single
side grind. The deeply curved modified drop point blade has a 1.625” (4.1
cm) Razor-Sharp cutting edge. It is a versatile shape, designed for a broad
range of outdoor tasks from carving, cutting line or rope, slicing and
trimming, to skinning game. Regardless of the grit or grime, the Side Hawg
has no hidden areas to trap dirt or moisture, so it can be completely cleaned.
A deep finger choil locates the knife in the user’s hand and gives a secure
grip. Friction grooves on the spine locate the thumb securely. The amply
drilled handle not only lightens the knife, but also provides grip edges
for the fingers.
The Sheath Plate is constructed of lightweight black Zytel®
with a stainless steel post and saddle clip. The Side Hawk is securely
held by placing its locator hole over the post, and then rotating the knife
into the saddle clip. The precision fit of the knife’s flat ground side
effectively seals the cutting edge to the frame. Drawing the knife is a
fast one-hand action.
The knife/sheath plate is small enough to be carried in a pants
pocket, coat pocket, vest pocket or PFD pocket. A carabiner and nylon strap
allow you to attach the Side Hawg to D-rings, belts, or belt loops, so
you won’t lose it whether you are running through the brush or running
a river.
This is definitely not your usual small utility knife. But
it is not different just for the sake of being different. Mike
Franklin has carefully thought this system out, resulting in a useful outdoor
tool that is also a great value.

Hawk Dog:
CRKT 4514: Grant Hawk's 'Dead-bolt Over Grabstep'
design is a rugged folder with the look and feel of a fine handgun, complete
with two sets of grips!
Driven by logic and a desire to perfect the dependable lock system which
would function properly even with debris in and around the lock, knifemaker
Grant Hawk arrived at this highly successful 'Deadbolt Over Grabstep
(D.O.G.) custom design. The CRKT production D.O.G. incorporates its key
features.
The knife is over built to withstand extreme conditions, with a massive
open build using 6061T6 hard anodized aluminium hanldes. The modified clip
point blade uses an oval thumb slot for opening, and is a hefty 0.15" thick.
Made of AUS8 stainles steel, this version is a combination serrated and
plain edge.
| Featured is the most advanced deadbolt design we know of, with a CNC
machined spring loaded deadbolt which engages even if dirt holds the blade
away from the stop pin. The deadbolt also holds the blade closed when folded.
Teflon bearings at the blade pivot give smooth action.Dual lock releases
protrude through both frame sides. Tight tolerances and an adjustable blade
pivot allow safe one hand opening. |
|
The D.O.G.'s handle shape is reminiscent of a fine handgun,
with a deep finger choil and graceful swelling at the butt. Each knife
includes two sets of Zytel grips, traditionally checkered, or diagonally
fluted, attached with Torx fasterners. Finally, Hawk came up with a better
clothing and gear clip - short, so it doesn't interfer with the grip. It
can be reversed right to left, and if you decide to remove it, the are
no unsightly holes left exposed.
It's a knife that's overbuilt with a rigid-blade feel, and a truly
different concept and detail. The combination of dual lock releases, the
oval blade thumb slot, and reversible clip result in a knife which feels
100% ambidextrous.
Specifications:
Blade: Length: 3.5” (8.9 cm)

The Convergence: 6863 ~ Combo
Edge
This knife is the convergence of three great ideas resulting in one
the sleekest and most unusual locking folders ever. The shape is one that
gained aclaim for award winning custom knifemaker, Aaron Frederick of Kentucky.
It is a remarkably simple classic profile, which is not marred by thumb
studs or nail nicks. To open, just press and pull the blade end with the
thumb or index finger, and the blade instantly pivots out and locks open.
Then we took the first opportunity to incorporate the patented RealEase
lock release system. When pressed down and back with the thumb, this CNC
machined button wedges the locking liner open. Just apply a little pressure
with your right or left index finger and you have a slick one-hand closing.
It makes releasing the liner lock a real ease. The result is a truly ambidextrous
locking liner folder.
Finally, for maximum safety, we added the patented LAWKS , which coverts
folders to virtual fixed blades when activated with a flick of the
thumb.
The Convergence uses our very rigid InterFrame build, assembled with
stainless steel spacers, Torx fasterners and 420J2 stainless steel liners.
The injection molded black Zytel scales receive our hex pattern Operators
Grip, which gives this knife great feel, purchase and utility for hundered
of daily work tasks.
The satin finished AUS 6M stainless steel blades are ground in a modified
drop-point design with a subtle false top edge. They are available
Combination razor-Sharp and Triple-Point Serrated edges.
Like all CRKT locking liner folders, the Convergence features Teflon
bearings at the blade pivot for smooth action.
The black Teflon plated clothing clip is useful, and quickly removable
if you want to pocket carry or just admire the knife's unadorned lines.
Alaska Pro Hunter #2750:
Meet the CRKT Alaska Pro Hunters. Designed by Alaskan guide
and knifemaker Russ Kommer. Classic knives for serious hunters, that you’ll
cherish and leave to your children. May be we at Columbia River Knife &
Tool (CRKT) overdid it. It started when we told Alaskan knifemaker and
hunting and fishing guide Russ Kommer that we wanted a series of premium
classic hunters with stacked leather handles. He came back with these three
functional (and graceful) designs. They are knives that you will use for
skinning, caping and field chores, then clean and display proudly—for decades
to come. Construction is the best we can achieve, and we think it is unique.
We start with a full tang premium 440A stainless steel blade
that will hold an edge while dressing the largest big game animals in North
America without constant need for touch up. We add a stainless steel bolster,
oversize rings of leather cut and dyed in Oregon, and a stainless butt
cap, swedged in place by a stainless steel tube rivet. Finally, the entire
handle is hand-shaped and finished to achieve the perfect contour, so each
knife is an individual work of art. The high hollow ground blades, bolster
and butt cap are given a high satin finish to close the metal pores, which
makes cleaning easier and fights corrosion. The blade is sized so
when skinning with the three-finger grip your index finger is right at
the blade tip.
|
|
These are handfinished production hunters that most custom
knifemakers would be proud of. We’ve name it after one of Russ’s favorite
hunting range - the Brooks Range. This semi-skinner has a deep belly. Ideal
for field dressing, the hump at the top of the blade allows the tip to
float when separating the hide from the ponch. And in case you can’t get
to Alaska on your next hunting trip, we reckon they'll work just
as well in Queensland or Tasmania.

M16-FD: originally
came in three sizes - and we've got two of them!
Black blades with
Fire Engine Red G10 handles.
CRKT introduces a line of knives designed for professional
use by police, firefighters, emergency service personnel and the military.
Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT) announces a full line of professional
work tools for those who put their lives on the line daily in the service
of our society. The line has been designed by leading knifemakers, who
have incorporated the features, materials and dress requested by professional
users and military procurement advisors. Columbia River knives have
been the equipment of choice for military and law enforcement operators
worldwide, as seen on a recent cover of Time Magazine. Space, weight and
quality are major issues to these professionals, and they have chosen gear
they trust to get the job done. CRKT is proud of the quality and affordability
of our product. Each one has been designed to do a specific job, covering
a range of needs for size, blade shape and edge, folding or fixed blade.
The FD models are laser engraved with Gary Paul Johnston’s
1* (one-ass-to-risk) trademarked* shield, as a reminder to Those Who
Serve to be careful out there. You only have
one ass to risk.” All folders in the For Those Who Serve line
also feature the patented (U.S. Patent No. 5,596,808) Lake And Walker Knife
Safety (LAWKS®), which effectively turns your folder into a fixed blade
when actuated. The LAWKS mechanism positively blocks the knife's liner
lock from being accidentally released, regardless of how the locking liner
may be pressed.

ROLLOCK - The folder
that doesn't fold- it slides!
Our Rollocks prove several things. First,
that a great folding knife doesn’t have to fold, and second, that owning
a precision tool doesn’t require taking out a second mortgage.
Since the original Rolox® was invented in 1975 by Blackie
Collins, it has been an expensive cult knife that attracted an enthusiastic
following. Unfortunately, production was very limited. After reaching an
agreement with Rolox to manufacture the concept as a true production knife,
we asked brilliant young Texas custom knifemaker Allen Elishewitz to redesign
the original classic. The result was a production knife that has the smoothest
Rolox action ever, with an entirely new look, and a price that put it in
any pocket or purse. Allen improved the blade shape, handle design, and
added a custom stainless steel clip. To show how this sliding “folder”
works, the polycarbonate scales with an engine turned pattern are translucent.
Suddenly it was a great new knife, and we renamed it the Rollock®
to
complete the transformation.
CRKT Rollock's prove several things. First, that a great
folding knife doesn’t have to fold, and second, that owning a precision
tool doesn’t require taking out a second mortgage.
But the visual appeal is only part of the story. The trick is to achieve
such tight manufacturing tolerances that opening and closing action is
both smooth and sound. Thanks to CNC machining and exceptional quality
control, we have achieved what Bill Adams, President of the Rolox Corporation
calls, “The slickest Rolox action I ever saw -much smoother than the old
handmade ones".
What you get is not a toy, but a quality cutting tool, with a
mirror polished frame of 420J2 stainless steel and a 2.25” blade of AUS
4 stainless steel. The drop point blade is taper ground, mirror polished
with a Razor-Sharp edge.

Then in 2005 CRKT added a blade notch that allowed easier one-hand
closing, plus two models with 420J2 stainless steel scales
- one in brushed finish that will allow personalised engraving, and
one in bead blast with spectacular guilloche engraving.
Opening And Closing
One hand opening is as simple as pressing at the base of the blade
and sliding the blade open. Click! A rigid lock-up. Aggressive friction
grooves make it easy. To close, just press the blade lock, let the blade
slide back, and press the blade in place until it locks closed. Click!
A strong spring keeps the blade closed.
(You can watch the blade locators through the translucent slot while
the blade is closing as a clue to the mechanism and how it works!)
K.I.S.S.- “Keep It Super Simple.”
Ed Halligan’s original K.I.S.S.® knife continues to be
a best seller, based on the concept: “Keep It Super Simple.”
Introduced in early 1998, Columbia River Knife and Tool’s innovative
K.I.S.S.® folding knife has continued to be a big success with retailers
and consumers. “Keep It Super Simple” said Ed Halligan, Knifemakers’
Guild Member and designer/engineer of the K.I.S.S.® And it is!
The original production compact, palm-size folder has only two major components—blade
and frame—precision fine blanked for superior fit and smooth operation.
The ingenuity of the K.I.S.S. Frame Lock™ design is that the
secure, safe and strong blade lock serves not only as part of the frame,
but also as the handle itself. A thumb stud is used to one-hand open the
blade, and as the blade is fully rotated open, the Frame Lock snaps crisply
in behind the blade to guarantee a sound lock-up. The blade can be closed
with one-hand by simply releasing the Frame Lock.
The blade shape is Tanto-inspired—Chisel-Point on the front and
flat on the backside—so that when the blade is closed onto its handle/frame,
the precision fit effectively “seals” the cutting edge to the frame, even
though it’s exposed. Both blade and frame are 420J2 stainless steel and
are fine bead-blast finished, as is the pocket/money clip and other hardware.
The design of the K.I.S.S. pocket/money clip permits it to be
used in a variety of ways: clipped to the pocket; as a money clip knife;
with split-ring or lanyard, and as a key chain knife.
In the wake of the success of the K.I.S.S., a flock of imitators
has suddenly appeared; none offers the simple elegance of Ed Halligan’s
original design, and none offers the value of CRKT quality manufacturing.
In fact, the more Ed’s design is imitated, the better it looks.
The K.I.S.S. is available in two blade configurations: CRKT’s
Razor-Sharp honed cutting edge, and a Combination Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™
Serrated cutting edge.

CASCADE LOCKBACK
Jim Hammond’s Cruiser series of customs seemed like an ideal starting
point in our development of a high quality affordable lockback work folder.
As the first custom knifemaker and Knifemakers’ Guild member to work with
Columbia River Knife & Tool (CRKT), he understood the translation necessary
to arrive at our successful production Cascade Lockback.
The blade is a Hammond modified clip point shape, hollow ground from
420J2 stainless steel with a bead blast finish, and available with a Combination
Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point™ Serrated edge.
For maximum comfort, we used our Twin-Fused™ handle technology using
a rigid, injection molded high-impact polycarbonate frame with a soft,
comfortable diamond patterned injection molded Kraton® grip for a firm,
safe hold. This build, combined with the rounded handle cross section,
deep finger choil with guard, pronounced butt pommel and blade thumb ramp
with friction grooves, results in one of the most secure and comfortable
grips in any folder, at any price.
This is a truly ambidextrous knife. Dual thumb studs allow fast either-hand
opening. We designed the lockback mechanism with a mid-lock on the spine,
at a point difficult to accidentally release. To make closing safer, and
to allow one-handed closing, we added a “hitch” at the 90? point. When
the lock bar is released with the blade up, the blade swings down 90? and
stops, reducing accidental cuts. You can then shift the Cascade to your
palm and press the blade closed.
A custom, removable stainless steel pocket/gear clip allows secure carry
in pocket, on webbing, and on tool aprons. And for those who prefer a traditional
belt carry, a molded closed cell foam Cordura® fabric bidirectional
carry scabbard is included. For hunters and outdoorsmen, we also offer
the Cascade 6904RHDH with a film dipped Realtree® camo handle and camo
carry scabbard.
The Cascade is ideal for anyone who has daily, lengthy carving or cutting
tasks. In CRKT testing, they was no evidence of the annoying little pressure
points that often cause blisters with repetitive use. So if your present
work or outdoor knife is less than a perfect fit, you can really afford
to give the Cascade a test grip.
