RETURN OF GREGSTEEL TRADE BLADES

Gregsteel is the popular trademark used by Gregory Steel Products Pty Ltd of Melbourne, the famous Australian manufacturer of cutlery for more than 6 decades. Jim Gregory began the business in 1912 which petered out of existence in the mid 1970’s. During the 1950’s Gregory Steel Products was the largest manufacturer of cutlery products in the Southern Hemisphere. Prior to that they were Australia’s biggest producer of military bladeware (not including bayonets) for Australian and American defence forces serving in Asia and the Pacific Ocean in World war Two.

Often taken for granted was Gregory’s wide range of mass-produced, good quality kitchen knives and trade knives that were used more or less on a daily basis. Admittedly, not as aesthetically exciting as most military and recreational type knives, but nonetheless just as useful when you need the right tool for the right job. In fact, Gregory Steel also supplied thousands of kitchen and trade knives (also tableware) for the war effort bearing the D(broad arrow)D Australian Defence Force (ADF) mark.

The Gregsteel/Gregory Steel Products Trade Mark #711548 in the Register of Trade Marks was registered by Keith Spencer (Australasian Knife Collectors –AKC) since 26 June 1996 and has been applied previously to replications of Australian-made military type knives (Gregsteel Stiletto & Gregsteel Bowie hand-crafted by custom knifemaker Zane Darcy Shaw).

Preparing Gregsteel trade blades for re-entry into the Australian marketplace has been a tedious, long-term project. No factory in this country was either prepared to or capable of manufacturing the Gregsteel patterns to the level of quality demanded and at the price required to re-launch Gregory Steel Products. Because Gregsteel trade blades couldn’t be satisfactorily made in Australia, the next best option was to travel back along the lineage to England, Sheffield in particular.

The high carbon bladesteel had to be right, so too the blade shapes, as well as handles securely hafted in the traditional way.
J Adams Ltd was the obvious choice, a long established firm with an impeccable track record for the production of trade blades. Under the tradename of J Nowill, this firm already supplies AKC MAILORDER with trade-type Aussie Rabbiter’s Kits & Bushman’s Kits and Australian Bushknives; faithfully reproduced old practical patterns popularised in Australia – so why not a collaboration on Gregsteel trade blades?

Lynn Abrams World Of Straight Razor Shaving
Cut throat razor enthusiast, Mr Lynn Abrams is a well known identity in the world’s razor scene.
As a 30 year plus straight razor shaver (cut throat razors are known as ‘straight razors’ in the USA), and the founder of the original Web-based Razor Place ( an internet forum and support group for razor enthuisiasts), he has also honed over 7000 razors for people all over the world who lacked the skill and were unable to ‘hone their own’.

But this DVD, with it's 3 ½ hours of instruction and demonstration, should solve that problem for you. Presented in eight sections, ‘chapters’ include honing, stropping, shaving demo, E-bay buying, introduction to mugs, soaps, and brushes, cleaning razors, soaps, mugs and brushes, buying a razor, and a look at some of Lynn’s own razor collection.

A remarkable DVD, and likely to become the most important shaving tool, after your razor of course!  $39.00 plus $5 post (or $7 Express) across Australia.  (International quotes for  airmail provided.)

    KNIFE ACCESSORIES: Sharpening Equipment:

“For more than 120 years my family has been in the Natural Arkansas Stone business,” says Smith’s President Richard Smith. “We’ve built our industry reputation on the basis of having a superior product and providing the best service to our valued customers.”
Smith’s is part of the Metalrax Group PLC, a publicly owned company in England that offers a diverse range of products to industrial and retail customers. Smith’s comprehensive range embraces five major sharpening categories: 100% Natural Arkansas Stones, Diamonds, Ceramics, Bonded Abrasives and Carbides.
The Smith’s precision sharpening kits shown here offer an easy way to sharpen all types of knives – including knives with serrated edges. A constant and correct angle of the cutting edge to the stone is achieved every time, by locking in the blade and the angle of the stone to the blade. The kits come with a selection of high quality sharpening stones, each mounted on its own individually colour-coded stone bar and comes with its own guide rod. Multi-angled T bars provide the most popular sharpening angle. The components, along with honing oil, are safely contained in purpose-build hard plastic storage box.
