UHC Fish Knives

After scouring Norden for truly representative working knives, the AKC imported its first experimental range of H ROSELLI KNIVES in 1995. From that moment onwards, these uniquely different and specialized items of bladeware have steadily gained acceptance on the Australian market. 'Down Under' we've learned to warm to an intriguing knife-sheath concept that's been in vogue at the 'Top End of the Planet' for more than 1,000 years. Laplanders - indigenous folk who live inside the Artic Circle (far north of Norway, Sweden, Finland & Russia) - swear by bladeware forged at the factory of Heimo Roselli just south of their border. Laplanders comprise of Mountain Lapps, Sea Lapps or River Lapps and such is their dependence upon edged tools, that only the best will do – which is why H ROSELLI knives & axes are so popular on top of the world.

That 'only the best will do' is what we look for in OZ too. It’s what you cannot see that counts with H ROSELLI.  Bladesmith Heimo Roselli refuses to build anything non-functional or unnecessary into his knives – the unessential is detrimental!

With the passing of each year there's a greater understanding of Arctic-style knives and desire by Australian users to invest in Nordic-made 'knivblads'. Hunters, survivalists and other serious knife & axe users are always on the lookout for practical and reliable edgeware to pack on forays into our bushland and wilderness areas. A growing number of adventurous outdoors folk are now packing H ROSELLI of FINLAND working knives and axes for those forays.

"The knife must carve  and cut well. For the blade, only the finest quality carbon steel is acceptable; steel which the smith will forge into a keen tool. For the handle, attractive curly birch. This noble tool grows in beauty the more you use it and before you know it, you'll have fallen in love with it."    - Heimo Roselli

ROSELLI STEEL
  • UHC – Ultra High Carbon bladesteel originates, in essence, from the legendary Wootz Damascus bladesteel of yesteryear. Utilizing technology advanced by Heimo Roselli, the outstanding cutting properties of Roselli UHC-STEEL result from its extreme hardness and numerous 'biting' carbides. The "Rolls-Royce" of blade steel - the epitomy of excellence in edges.
  • Roselli UHC-STEEL takes a great edge, arguably retains its sharpness for twice as long as conventional carbon steel and is readily re-honed to razor-sharpness. UHC is indeed a unique bladesteel, achieved after several years of research and experimentation by Heimo Roselli. It's what isn't apparent (what you cannot see) in UHC bladesteel that really matters. The blade doesn't reveal its true nature until you begin to use it.
  • Sharpening: Roselli razor-sharp edges can be easily maintained using Ezi-Lap flat diamond steel plates or Spyderco ceramic sharpening stones. Personally, I follow the philosophy that 'the best way to sharpen a knife is to never let it get dull'; the best way being to keep the edge 'touched up' using a polished sharpening steel. Mind you, in the case of Roselli edges of UHC-STEEL, for the most part, you're only going through the 'steeling' motions, because they’re so darned hard to make dull!

ROSELLI of FINLAND

Traditional Forged Carbon Steel Knives

Roselli Maser Birch Handles: palm filling and skilfully contoured to Finnish knifemaking tradition.
All Roselli blades come in a knife and sheath combination.

Forged W75 carbonized bladesteel with specialized hardening and tempering to give a razor-edge that is easy to re-sharpen.

In order to provide bladesteel with the required edge holding properties, proper forge-hardening and tempering technniques are essential. Heimo Roselli combines proven techniques from  traditional bladesmith art with modern forging technoloy to produce superior quality blades.

Handles
Distinctively grained Curly Birchwood handle with a shaped-bulbous universal and comfortable grip to fit every handsize. The hand-crafted handle surface is stained using linseed oil to preserve the warm touch of wood and to ensure a safe-tactile grip during use.
Sheaths
Each Roselli knife comes safely housed in a 100% compatible, strong and durable top quality leather sheath.

Storage
ROSELLI recommends that their knives should always be stored in their sheaths. Top quality expertly cured ROSELLI leather sheaths are well stained with linseed oil, thereby obviating blade corrosion.
Of course, knives must be cleaned and dired after use and a light coat of parrafin oil applied periodically to the blade.
Keep your knife and sheath combo as one.

Roselli UHC-STEEL SERIES (Ultra High Carbon)
knife-sheath combinations

Roselli Maser Birch Handles: palm filling and skilfully contoured to Finnish knifemaking tradition.

Following years of research and experiments, H Roselli developed his own way of processing ultra carbon containing bladesteel (1.5-2.0%). The outstanding edge holding properties of UHC-steel results from the high amount of hard carbides produced in the forging process.

Whatever the job, UHC-steel holds its edge longer. In fact the edge retains its sharpness twice as long as conventional carbon steel. The handles of UHC-knives are made of birch, kiln-dried and stained, to ensure a good grip. A strongly constructed leather sheath is a feature to each Roselli knife.

And now for something VERY special....

ASTRID KITCHEN KNIVES
Designed & manufactured by Roselli of Finland.

“Your first expense is your last expense”. My mother used to say this to me. I never forgot those words. In other words, buy ‘right’ first up and you won’t need to buy the same item again later. Such is the product quality that it will last for as long as you need it to... and in the case of Roselli-made blades from UHC-STEEL that means many generations of use.
  • Manufactured from Roselli UHC-STEEL. Chromium and Nickel free - Non-toxic.
  • Internationally acknowledged top-quality product of Finland.
  • Universal-grip handles fashioned from best texture Curly Birchwood and each kitchen knife is individually housed in a hardwood custom-made cradle.
  • Blades ground from 1.5-mm thick UHC-STEEL, tapering to 0.5-mm at the tip – very slim, very strong & very sharp... yet not overly flexible.

  • A rare combination of features – extra-slim, extremely practical kitchen knives are not so common any more.
