DIAMOND SHARPENERS:  Diamond is the hardest known natural material known to man. Diamonds are specifically renowned as a material with superlative physical qualities that make excellent abrasives. The atomic connectivity of the carbon atoms gives the diamond its hardness. Diamonds are so strong they can only be scratched by other diamonds. GATCO diamond sharpeners can be used to rapidly and precisely sharpen kitchen, sport and utility cutlery, carbide tools, scissors and other edge-cutting instruments.

THE BLADESHARPENER

Pro-Am Australian-designed Blade Sharpening System.

Patterned after the style of the T-Bar mechanical concept popularized by GATCO (Great American Tool Company) and other USA-made models designed to sharpen small to medium/large knives, the Bladesharpener prioritizes sharpening medium/large knives to very big blades.

Big blades, such as machetes, parangs and goloks, as well as industrial blades on rural machinery, for example, beg to be sharpened on bench grinders and belt grinders – machines that require electrical power to operate. But it is a fact of life that edged tools get blunt using them ‘in the field’, sometimes a long way from the availability of electricity – like the back paddock or at remote campsites.

Being mechanically operated (no power cords necessary) and with additional sharpening devices available, the large, but compact, relatively lightweight Bladesharpener (weighs a tad over 4-kg including sharpening stone and two ‘flipover’ devices) can sharpen practically any blade.

The unit can be simply clamped to the tray-top of a ute, a shearing shed bench... whatever... wherever there’s something sturdy to attach The Bladesharpener on to with the turn of a clamp screw.
The Bladesharpener system is virtually failsafe and foolproof, but never leave any blade in the device unattended to prevent accidents from happening. The Bladesharpener comes with the 100-mm long ‘flipover’ clamp to grip the blade being sharpened. This attachment is spring-loaded to enable the user to turn the blade over after sharpening one edge so as to sharpen the other without having to un-clamp and re-clamp the knife.

In order to sharpen long blades - say over 30-cm - it is wise to invest in the  200-mm long ‘flipover’ (an extra accessory) for more control of the sharpening operation.

Comparing the standard 100-mm flipover
(that comes with the Bladesharpener system)
with the 200-mm flipover, which is a recommended
additional accessory.
Basic Bladesharpener System contains:
  • Clamp-able body with adjustable T-Bar and adjustable 100-mm flipover for gripping blades (can set angles precisely),
  • 50 X 200-mm combination stone and frame
  • Additional frame for a larger stone,
  • A rod & round fitting to accept flat and round files (round for restoring serrations),
  • Assembly tools
  • Instruction book.
AKC Mailorder: $295.00 + postage.

Postage nationwide for The Bladesharpener $20-$24 depending upon the location. Quotations provided

SPYDERCO

SPYDERCO SHARPMAKER KIT  204MF
$119.00 + $11.00 post.
Chances are you've heard it said "a sharp knife is safer than a dull one". We believe this quote originated from first hand experience and find it to be true. The Sharpmaker was Spyderco's first product, which we made and sold before getting into the knife business. It's true -- First we made things sharp, then we made sharp things.

The Tri-Angle Sharpmaker (204MF) includes two sets of high alumina ceramic stones: A pair of medium-grit (brown) stones for aggressive sharpening and a set of fine (white) stones for professional grade finishing. The stones are triangular for sharpening Plainedges on the flat sides and SpyderEdges (serrations) on the corners. A furrow running the length of each stone lets you sharpen pointed items like fish hooks, darts and awls. Included is a set of brass safety rods protecting the users hands while sharpening. All components snap into the self-contained ABS plastic base and lid -- ready to travel with you. Die-cut into the base are keyed slots and holes fitted for the stones. They accurately set the stone's sharpening angle at a 30° (15° each side) or 40° (20° each side) for knives and a 12.5° scissor setting. Turn the base over, a channel lets you lay two stones side-by-side (flat-side up) for use as a benchstone. The lid snaps halfway over the base creating a handhold for stability while you're sharpening. Included is a set of brass safety rods to protect the users hands while sharpening. Ceramic stones, like glass, will break if dropped -- handle carefully. Use them dry, without oil, water or lubricants. To clean: scrub stones with a plastic scouring pad and powered abrasive cleaner, let air-dry. Also autoclave safe. System comes with instruction book and DVD.

SPYDERCO CERAMIC BENCH STONES:
Because Spyderco's benchstones are flat and broad they are highly effective for honing wide tools like plane irons, chisels, large blades, woodworking equipment, razors, even ski edges, and of course, for knives of any blade length.
Available in Medium, Fine or Ultrafine grits, each 2"x8" stone comes packaged in a rigid polymer storage case complete with non-skid rubber feet for tabletop use. As with all of Spyderco's ceramic stones, use our benchstones dry without lubricants or oils.
To clean: wash with fresh water and scrub metal particles from the stones with a plastic scouring pad and abrasive powered cleanser.

302M: This 2"x8" medium stone comes packaged in a dark blue rigid polymer storage case complete with non-skid rubber feet for tabletop use. As with all of Spyderco's ceramic stones, use our benchstones dry without lubricants or oils.

Approximating 600 grit, this bench stone is ideal to remove steel and reshape bevels.

$76.00 + $8.00 post

302F: This 2"x8" fine stone comes packaged in a light blue rigid polymer storage case complete with non-skid rubber feet for tabletop use. As with all of Spyderco's ceramic stones, use our benchstones dry without lubricants or oils.

Approximating 1800 grit, this bench stone is ideal for fine cutting edges on knives or for cutthroat razors.

$76.00 + $8.00 post

302UF: After many requests, Spyderco is now manufacturing an ultrafine-grit 2"x8" bench stone.
Ultrafine stones are ideal for professional polishing and finishing and can tighten the steel's scratch pattern bringing an already sharp edge to an even keener level. The stone comes packaged in a rigid polymer black storage case complete with non-skid rubber feet for tabletop use.
Ultra Fine (approximating 2000 grit) - ideal for polishing edges

$109.00 + $8.00 post

The wide variety of products on offer allow you to pick and choose the model(s) that best suit your needs. EZE-LAP manufactures a wide variety of diamond products for sharpening knives and tools. EZE-LAP has been a pioneer and originator of diamond sharpeners since the early 1970's. The patented diamond process and modern technology allows EZE-LAP to produce the finest quality diamond products for the lowest possible price.

EZE-LAP is proud to offer the flattest, most consistent production diamond tools avalable on the market today. Even after years of satisfaction, EZE-LAP customers are still amazed at the quality and consistency of the finishes that are achieved by the diamond tools. This kind of quality is achieved by a product entirely made in the USA and we take pride in that! Whatever your sharpening needs, EZE-LAP has the diamond product for your knives and tools.

All EZE-LAP products start off a little rough to the touch, this is just the result of the manufacturing process where some of the diamonds are still “proud” of the locking substrate. After a short usage time the surface will become very smooth. This is the way they need to be! In fact, the smoother they feel the better they will work, the diamonds will remove metal to create a sharp edge and the locking substrate will polish the edge at the same time.

To Clean and Care: EZE-LAP diamond sharpeners require regular cleaning with detergent and water to clean out the pores of the abrasive. Turps, CRC or WD40 can also be used. If EZE-LAP products are used in fishing, the surface needs to be rinsed clean of salty water and sprayed with CRC or WD 40 to prevent rusting.
