  • Vinland:
Vinland is a random type pattern, forged from bars of the concentric lamination  type and formed by randomly disrtibuted hammering during the forging process. Vinland characteristically has a  'heartwood' in the middle of the blade phase, and a 'fingerprint' in the blade tip area. Ground and black bars in stock.
VINLAND GROUND    3.2 x 32mm   $615.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms
VINLAND BLACK       5.0 x 30mm    $629.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms

Twist Patterns ~ A  laminated billet is rolled to a round dimension. The bar is then twisted in a special process and forged flat.
Available  in black or fine ground surface standard.

  • Twist: Two patterns develop as contours deepen: Cross-roads: a band of crosses follow the line where the grinding depth is deepest. Eyeline: a band of 'eyes' follow the line where the grinding depth is minimal.

  • TWIST GROUND     3.2 x 32 mm   $649.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms
    TWIST BLACK        4.0 x 26 mm    $482.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms
    TWIST BLACK        5.0 x 32 mm    $673.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms
    TWIST GROUND     3.2 x 26mm    $568.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms

Coined Patterns ~ A laminated bar is coined with rifled or knotty tools during the forging operation or during hot rolling. This coining deforms the laminated layers into a damascene pattern. The coined surface is then machined flat.

  • Odin's Eye: Pattern coining on billets with concentric damascene layers gives 'eyes' in the center and wavy structure towards the edges.  Patterns are distinct closer  to a flat surface, with deeper contours reverting to a more stripy pattern.

  • ODINS EYE  GROUND     3.2 x 32 mm   $764.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms
    ODINS EYE  GROUND     4.0 x 38 mm   $1027.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms
    ODINS EYE  GROUND    4.0 x 45 mm    $1182.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms
    ODINS EYE  GROUND    5.0 x 45 mm    $1399.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms

  • Rose: Rose is pattern coined to a knotty surface.  After grinding, concentric rings are seen in the middle part. The pattern is more random-like towards the edge. Patterns are distinct and clear closer to a flat surface, with deeper contours reverting to a more stripy pattern. Ground bars in stock.

  • ROSE GROUND     3.2 x 32 mm   $764.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms
    ROSE GROUND     4.0 x 38 mm   $1027.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms
    ROSE GROUND     4.0 x 45mm    $1174.00/metre or pro-rata. Minimum cut $10-cms

Mosaic Patterns ~ a mosaic pattern in the cross section of a steel bar.
The final patterns  are made by coining, cutting or twisting.

  • Ladder: A 'Bluetounge' mosaic bar coined in a ladder tool.  The pattern is best observed closer to the flat surface, becoming less pronounced as it  contours towards the cutting edge.

  • LADDER    3.2 x 32   $840.00/metre or pro-rate. Minimum cut $10-cms
    LADDER    4.0 x 38   $1088.00/metre or pro-rate. Minimum cut $10-cms
    LADDER    4.0 x 45   $1305.00/metre or pro-rate. Minimum cut $10-cms

  • Heimskringla: A twisted mosaic bar. Like all twists, the mosaic pattern is best seen closer to the edge where the grinding contour is deeper.

  • HEIMSKRINGLA    3.2 x 32  $799.00/metre or pro-rate. Minimum cut $10-cms
    HEIMSKRINGLA    4.0 x 38  $1088.00/metre or pro-rate. Minimum cut $10-cms

The A.K.C has developed an identity inducing new makers into this burgeoning (essentially "cottage') industry. Over the years scores of would-be makers got started via the AKC, which also provide critiques and appraisals on first knives made by novices.  Please phone (08 9572 7255)  prior to sending knives for review. Return postage (satchel) is required.
