Curly Grained Birch: Scandinavia’s most popular knife handle material: Imported from Norway.
Curly-grained Birchwood is probably the most beautiful and stable Nordic hardwood used for knife handles and has been used since old times by the Sami (Laplanders), the indigenous inhabitants of Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Russian Kola Peninsula; they carried up to five different knives catering for a wide range of tasks.

‘Curly-grained Birchwood is commonly used for knife handles. Unlike most other types of wood, the surface of Curly-grained Birchwood does not become perforated with fibres or pores from the polished wood fibres. Instead, it becomes hard and smooth and very resistant to damage. The opposite properties can be seen in other timbers, such as oak, beech, walnut and others. No matter how long you polish these woods, you will not get a surface as smooth as that of Curly-grained Birchwood (however, they can have other attractive qualities).’ ....
Knifemaking: A Complete Guide to Crafting Knives, Handles & Sheaths by Bo Bergman.

This beautiful hard-smooth surface finish achievable on Curly-grained Birchwood knife handle blocks and scales is only rarely accomplished on other readily available hardwoods. Such a finish serves to highlight and enliven the finite features of a timber’s texture – and Curly-grained Birchwood is laced with fabulous texture.

To ensure they are securely fitted, the AKC recommends that all handles be pinned (can be internal pins), riveted or screwed and epoxied (glued).

Regular-size handle blocks  (tempory stock shortage)
    Minimum Size 2.5 X 4.0 X 13.0-cm. . .    $17.50

Dymondwood:  Dymondwood colors are deep and vibrant.  No two pieces will be exactly the same.  Different wood grains and pigmentation will take the dyes differently and the thickness variations of the woods will produce a slightly different effect on each piece.  Multiple layers of thin natural American hardwoods, dyed then compressed together with resin under extreme heat and pressure to form a permanent bond. Resists chipping, cracking & staining.  Can be worked with ordinary woodworking tools and equipment. Beautiful textures and colour variations emerge on contoured grips.
