A.Wright & Sons, Sheffield

The old Sheffield family business of A.Wright & Sons Ltd was originally registered in 1947 as Arthur Wrights, a traditional Sheffield Pen and Pocket Knife manufacturer. A Wright & Sons Ltd developed into the principal provider of knife manufacturing supplies in Sheffield, a position it continues to hold in Sheffield to this day.

A.Wright & Sons Ltd also offers a comprehensive range of stylish English pocketknives and fixed blades in its own right. The firm specialises in  manufacturing the ever popular traditional-style Sheffield-made practical bladeware in the tried & proved knife patterns from the past, when the functional reliability of a knife really counted throughout the British Commonwealth. Only top quality high carbon bladesteel is used.

All A.Wright & Sons knives are still individually hand crafted by apprentice-trained Sheffield Cutlers, using methods passed down from generation to generation. Every process, from blanking out the blades and springs, hardening and tempering, assembly, grinding and glazing - right up to the final polishing, is all done in-house. This gives Wright's a guaranteed quality control through every step of the process of knife making.

    Wright Willing Workers Fixed-blade Range

    WR804F:  Feral Skinner
Lightweight deep-bellied 12-cm high carbon steel blade with compressed leather grip & leather sheath. Just put it into your hand and find out for yourself. An oldie but goodie from a bygone era... as useful today as it ever was!

A ripper fixed-blade skinner for Aussie feral game – whatever the variety! Scrounged from among the vast range of old Sheffield knife blanks and harking back to the halcyon days of the world’s most famous cutlery centre, comes drop-forged skinner blank pattern #0802.

This was one of the more popular knife blanks used for hunting knives sold to countries throughout the British Commonwealth. In those days hunters favoured compressed leather-ring grips with brass guards and spacers. More particularly though, they liked the 4-mm thick, 12-cm long X 3-cm wide flaying blade of carbon steel, flat-ground with a tapered tip for slicing and boning – simply fantastic!

  • 12-cm blade.
  • carbon steel
  • Leather belt sheath
  • brass guard

    WR802B:  Vermin Hunter

Another gem from Sheffield’s popular 19th century drop-forged knife blanks transformed into a lightweight, finely balanced hunter’s knife. The most hunted Australian vermin are smallish, soft-skinned creatures such as rabbits and foxes, for which the Wright Vermin Hunter is ideal. Of course, in the hands of skilled user, this knife will deal with larger, tougher-skinned animals and the blade shape and size is particularly suited to boning tasks. An excellent stablemate for the Wright Feral Skinner.
