Gregsteel® Razors

Razor supply specialists, AKC Mailorder, are proud to announce the re-introduction of GREGSTEEL® cutthroat razors onto the market. It’s been a while between shaves since the first time a GREGSTEEL® razor was launched into the market place – in 1921!

The Daily Commercial News & Shipping List July 9, 1921 reported:

“The growth of steel cutlery manufacture in Australia is gratifying. Gregory Steel Products Pty Ltd, 25 Johnstone Street, Collingwood (Melbourne) are now manufacturing razors from the best Sheffield steel.”

GREGSTEEL® was the well-known trade name of Gregory Steel Products Pty of Melbourne.
James (Jim) Havelock Gregory, an experienced saw-filer (saw doctor), began his own blade sharpening service in Melbourne in 1912. He grew his business over the years to become the largest knife and tool manufacturer in the Southern hemisphere by the mid-1950's. Gregory Steel Products cycle of existence ceased in 1970.

In 1996, the Gregory Company’s trade name and trademarks were acquired by AKC Mailorder’s parent company to perpetuate the memory of Australia’s best known cutlery manufacturer. Under the GREGSTEEL® brand, the AKC has previously produced military knife reproductions for collectors, and trade blades (skinner, boner/filleter and butcher) for hunters and trade users. Now we offer a select range of  Australianized razors.

Giesen & Forsthoff of Solingen in Germany, one of only a handful of quality razor manufacturers left in the world, was selected to exclusively produce the traditional style GREGSTEEL® razors. Coincidentally,Giesen & Forsthoff commenced manufacturing razors in 1921, precisely the time the Gregory Company also began making razors.

Available in either quality Rosewood (552G) or stunning Walnut (554G), Gregsteel® razors are exclusive to the AKC.
